In their latest Australasian release, Seiko draws inspiration from the mesmerising beauty of Australian nature to create two Limited Edition watches that embody the dreamy hues of our unique environment. The newest Seiko Prospex watches come in two models, the SPB347J (Noosa) model is powered by calibre 6R35 and its textured blue dial is reminiscent of the graceful motions of iconic Noosa beach. For now, though, we will discuss the second, SRPJ53K (Eucalyptus) model.

Design

The dial of the SRPJ53K not only evokes the hues and tones of the notable green eucalyptus, but its meaning goes beyond just that. Seiko successfully captures the true feeling of the Australian bush, creating an experience that vitalises all of the senses. The dial has a shimmer which is reminiscent of the Australian heat and the unique golden phenomenon that occurs.  In the heat, these trees release essential oils that have a distinctive fragrance and when direct sunlight hits these droplets, light is reflected creating an aura of golden sheen that surrounds the tree's crown.

Seiko effectively captures this phenomenon with the subtle graduation of earthy greens and glimmering golds that evoke the illustrious form of the eucalyptus. The gradient dial has a golden yellow centre which effortlessly fades into a desaturated green around the edges, the gradient continues into the bezel insert, boasting a deeper, earthier shade which frames the dial elegantly. This illusion is highlighted by a rich sunray finish. This brushed finish involves a pattern of lines that intersect at a central point, resembling sun rays and solidifying the intended motif.

White highlights on the watch are striking against its olive tones and are featured on the day and date wheels as well as the text and luminous indexes. The second hand is brushed with a yellow finish that is said to evoke the yellow veins that weave through eucalyptus leaves creating an immense contrast in the piece. The minute and hour hands are finished in a lustrous silver that adds a cool element to the overall design.

This magical combination of colours is executed to perfection, and is a real showstopper. Seiko have managed to successfully (and beautifully) embody the soft tones of the natural Australian environment like never before.

Both watches come with an additional rubber strap that can be interchanged. The Eucalyptus model comes with a dark green strap that complements the dial colour. This strap is a great addition to the collection, and the watch looks exceptional in either the stainless steel option or the rubber option.

Finished in the iconic, long-revered 'Turtle' case, this watch is a great example of a timepiece that is so outstanding that its quirks are not only accepted but lovingly embraced. Each time you slip on the 'Turtle' case you are strapping on a piece of history. Even with its 45mm diameter, the watch sits nicely on the wrist due to the short lug-to-lug measurement, meaning that you can embrace style in comfort.

Technology

Powered by the automatic calibre of 4R36, the SRP53K has over 40 hours of power reserve and 24 jewels. This movement offers the highly desired hacking and hand-winding functionality with the addition of the day/date display. Not only this, but it includes the Seiko Diashock anti-shock system and an ETACHRON regulator. Featuring only the best in quality timekeeping, this is a piece that you will adore.

Price and Availability

This release comes with the exciting news that Seiko will now contribute funds to ocean conservation from the entire Prospex range, including sales from these new watches. Previously, the only products that contributed to these charities were a part of the 'Save the Oceans' range, however, now Seiko has made a bold move to increase their contributions. These funds are directed to various different marine conservation activities aimed to help protect the world's oceans.

These Seiko watches are Limited Edition, and only available to the Australasian market. From September 2022 there will be only 1,000 of each style available at selected retailers. The SRPJ53K will retail for $895.

Seiko have created a magical timepiece that truly embodies the splendour of Australia. Featuring the highest quality technology and innovative designs, this watch is one not to be missed. The thought, precision and details in this piece reflect not only the aesthetics of its muse but Seiko have managed to truly capture the essence of the Australian bush and its meaning to those who call it home.
